just some thoughts on a friday…

— For some reason I am in a really great mood today. I am not going to analyze, just (as my friend Byron said) “ride it til the wheels fall off”. I think that a good weekend is on the horizon. Now, if only I could bottle this feeling and bring it out for a drink whenever I am not having the best day. Hmm… I do think that perhaps I am coming to a point where I finally want to start taking those next steps towards changing the things in my life that are stagnant. It will be a trek, but the first step is the hardest. Here’s hoping I can get my foot un-stuck and make that step soon.

— Netflix is throttling me again. Check this out:

This is a picture that I took of 3 return envelopes of 3 movies that I received at the same time. Perhaps sending all three in at the same time, and receiving 3 more at the same time pisses them off, so they make sure you can’t do it again. Too bad for them that I put all 3 in the Duluth envelope and sent them in. You may be tricky, but I am smart, Netflix. HA! (in case you can’t make it out in the photo, one is Duluth, GA, one is Santa Ana, CA, and one is Honolulu, HI (!!!!!!!))

— I know that I didn’t say anything yesterday (because I really wasn’t feeling up to blogging for whatever reason) but the Scissor Sisters concert was easily the best concert I have ever been to. I am certain that this concert experience has not only elevated the Sisters into the upper echelons of my favorite artists, but it has convinced me that they are one of the most talented bands out there right now. I still don’t understand why they aren’t on the radio. Oh well, those that go without are missing out… more for me. I took a ton of pictures at the concert, and here’s a good one:

You can check out lots (LOTS!) more here. I am pretty happy that so many came out pretty good.

— I am going to see the Nightmare before Christmas in IMAX 3D tonight. That should be fun! I will be popping my IMAX cherry tonight; with Jake Skellington. Nice.

— I am so glad that I have gotten back into music. I am loving it. There is so much new stuff that I have been checking out (Sugababes, Girls Aloud, Hellogoodbye, Rachel Stevens, the new Scissor Sisters (LOVE THEM!), Robbie Williams (not so much), and the new John Mayer), and I am so freaking glad that I have been able to get back into one of my biggest hobbies. See, perhaps the road to happy is getting a little shorter. At least I have some new tunes to listen to on my trip. =o)

— I posted about it briefly on my LJ, but I am really shocked Jeffery won Project Runway. I seriously thought it was going to be Ulli (as I said earlier), solely based on her collection, and throughout the entire episode, they talked her’s up the most, only to give it to Jeffery in the end. That didn’t make sense. It was like they gave her the trophy, then took it back. Whatever. There’s always someone to root for next season. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait long (like they did between season 2 and 3). Either way, good for him (his collection wasn’t that bad), but we all know that Michael and Uli have nothing to worry about; they will find work. I still wish Uli had won, but I will quit complaining.

— Alright, now I am going to enjoy the rest of my afternoon. Hope everyone is having a great day, and hope that you can have a great weekend too!

all over the place

So the previous post didn’t work. They still are cramping my style. I have even told MT to hold comments that include links, and it still doesn’t. Oh well. I tried.

After a weekend spent literally laying on the couch, I am feeling better. Perhaps it was what I needed. I am bitter that I wasn’t able to do the things I had planned, though. I missed out on some pretty fun shit, and I am sad about that. Oh well, there will be more fun to have in the future, I know it.

Last night, I realized that Brothers and Sisters is much better than Desperate Housewives. It is a fantastic show. Even if Calista Flockhart is playing Anne CoulterCunter on the show. Other than her, I love it. I wish Sally Field was my mom. She is so freaking awesome.

Last night I was thinking way to hard, and felt down about some things, but I won’t bore you with the details. I know that I need to realize what is great in my life, and I do, it is just hard to get past being depressed sometimes. If you have ever been (or are) depressed, you will know exactly what I mean. It’s so weird how you can go into this zone, and not be able to shake it. I know I said I wasn’t going to be specific, but my family was one of the things I was thinking about, and I think that I am going to write them letters. My sister called me this weekend, and led in with the usual guilt, and I am sick of it, so I think I am going to tell her. I will probably post the letters. That should be interesting.

Also, I have been giving a lot of thought about unprotected sex, lately. I read an article talking about how it was on the rise, and I will probably post something about it this week. I guess this whole post is like a rundown of the weekend, as well as a preview for the week. Rock on! Hope everyone’s Monday is fantastic.

interesting visitors and potential technical difficulties (hopefully the good kind!)

So last night, I was waiting for James to get home from work, and I hear a knock at the door. I am one of those people that gets a little weirded out by people just showing up at your house, but I looked out the window to be sure it wasn’t a rapist before opening the door. To my surprise, it is a skinny guy wearing a t-shirt with the letters DNC in bold letters; he was collecting money. I got his info so that I could send the money in (I do want to donate, just not while you stand on my porch and wait for a check), and sent him on his way… he seemed like a nice kid, he just talked A LOT (and if you know me, you know that is saying a lot coming from me). Either way… About an hour later, I hear another knock on the door; this time, I figure it is James home with the groceries or something, needing my help. It isn’t. It is the boy again. This time, I notice that it is pouring down rain, and he is completely soaked. He asks if he can hang out on our porch until his ride arrives, which was scheduled to arrive around 8:30; about 1 and a half hours from the moment he knocked on my door the second time. Being a nice person, I told him yes, and offered him a towel, but didn’t let him in. Honestly, we live in the hood, and I just don’t invite strange people in my house, before you start saying I’m mean, I thought I would clarify. Anyway… so, I called James, and told him to hurry home, which he did, and we discussed allowed the guy to come in. But before James could arrive, the guy was telling me about himself, and talking about our neighborhood, and confessed that the reason he came back to our house, was because of the rainbow sticker on my car. He said it was nice to have a “friend” nearby, being that he was transsexual and all. What?! Okay, I have no problem with trans people at all, I just honestly was surprised that he felt compelled to tell a complete stranger his sexual identity. Either way, he came in and talked to James for about an hour and a half about politics and just about everything else, while I slinked away to the TV room and continued playing X-men Legends II. I was just not in the place for accepting visitors; especially not someone I didn’t know at all, and who wanted to talk about politics all evening. Either way, next time I hear a knock at the door, I will go into it knowing that there may be someone rather interesting on the other side.

As for the potential technical difficulties portion of the post, I know that many saw my rant about my crappy hosting service yesterday, and after much canoodling, they have agreed to move me to a new server; which I hope will solve the problem, after all, the website worked fine last night at 2am (probably a time when the other sites on the server aren’t hogging my bandwidth!). Either way, I don’t know when they are moving it, but if something goes weird all of a sudden, or things disappear, you will know why. See you on the other side!!

yo back, stop hurting!

Ouch. Ouch. Ouch!

Happy Birthday Lori. You Rock! I took her to Apres Diem for lunch, and we shall have Korean BBQ, drinking, and bowling tonight. Probably no bowling for me though, as Mr. Back has decided to be Mr. Pain in the Back.

Also, I saw this on BBC News. As if I needed a reason to never go to Uganda, I now have one. Talk about a violation of civil rights, publishing names of homosexuals? LOW. Dangerous. Scary. I love how they are “thinking about” posting names of lesbians. Jeez. I could never live somewhere where it is illegal to be gay. I just hope that our situation in the states doesn’t slip-slide down that slippery hill; lord knows, it could.

Hope you guy’s friday is better than this pain coursing through my back.

what’s going through my head right this minute:

In an effort to show you a window into my mind, which races constantly from topic to topic, issue to issue, song to song, etc, I thought I would give you a list of things I am thinking about right this minute. Here we go. Also, I may update this list as things enter and exit my busy, busy mind.
— I think that I might have to buy this shirt (image to the right, yo). It is wicked cute.
— When you are a “conscientious driver” that doesn’t put up with other people’s shit on the road; does that necessarily equate with road rage? This of course refers to my actions when people blindly drive about in complete ignorance of other cars; most importantly, mine.
— Why does it itch when your tattoo is healing? Other scabs don’t itch (necessarily), so why does this? Ugh… I really want to scratch it but I can’t!
— We had dinner with friends last night. Are having dinner with friends tonight. I love having dinner with friends, and I truly mean it every time I say, “We should do this more often”. So why don’t we do it more often?
— The words to “Sleep on It” by Danity Kane. (remember, I said song lyrics… there is usually at least one in there at all times. I look at it as my soundtrack to life. It only sucks when you get something like Matchbox 20 stuck in there. Ugh.)
— The Thai Peanut salad at Doc Chey’s is extremely delicious. Too bad I left my Karma Card at the office and couldn’t cash in my free birthday bucks.
— I REALLY hate it when I am reading an article, or see a title of an article and there are one or more misspelled words in it. Seriously, do you not proof read what you put out for the whole wide world to see? And they make spell checkers people! You already know how “rediculous” I think missed misspellings are.
— I read that I can install an NES emulator on my new phone, and play Mario 3 on it. Jesus, I love that. I am going to seriously try and take care of that tonight… stay tuned.
— I wonder if I will get anything cool for my birthday? Hope so!

Perhaps more later, but that’s it for now!

it’s friday! woo hoo!

Last night was the monthly APWBWGTTD, and it was a lot of fun. I had nachos. Take a look at the pictures I took here. There really isn’t much going upstairs for me today, other than repeating the phrase, “I can’t wait to get off of work!”. So, not much intellectual banter today… I do hope everyone is having a great day.

I had sushi for lunch! YAY! Thanks for a fun lunch, Lori.

Also, you should check out my friend Byron‘s blog… he has some interesting things to say about the new “I am African” campaign. I can’t believe that Gwyneth! I know her heart is in the right place, but, African? They should have used Jolie… at least she has an African child! LOL

Happy Friday Ya’ll! Also, I guess no one was feeling the Moonlight Mile related post from yesterday… no worries, it is still a great movie!

random thoughts that struck on a thursday

— Birthdays should be changed to birthmonths; then you could get more presents. I have already taken it upon myself to practice this new tradition.
— Indian food rocks. Big time.
— Somedays (most days), I would rather just stay in bed all day long. Anyone else feel like that?
— It makes me mad that music doesn’t just come out everywhere; I am in love with that Will Young song “All Time Love”. I had to buy the CD on ebay… I should be able to get it at Best Buy. Well, at least I can get it on ebay, so I guess I am not that mad.
— I get my new phone tomorrow. I literally can’t wait. (yet another present for birthmonth)
— Isn’t you tube one of the best things ever? I do want more fun videos to watch though (hint hint).
— In addition to these thoughts, I wanted an excuse to post the picture that you see here. We watched Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? last night, and it was, well, weird. Nothing will ever top Mommie Dearest for me when thinking about Joan Crawford (even though it really is Faye Dunaway). I have the real (actual Joan) version of this photo on my fridge (thanks to Parley). God I love that crazy bitch (even though Betty Davis was WAY crazier in WHTBJ).

I may add more to this list as the day goes on. Oh yes, I may.

why? just because, that’s why

So, I think that I going to buy a new camera. I love my other one, but it is honestly too bulky (ha! I never thought I would believe that from a small hand-held point and shoot, but, eh, there it is), and as a result, I hardly use it. So, I am going to get one I can slip in my pocket and take places. Here’s the one I am going to get. Probably today. So, like, let’s take each others pictures and shit. I’ll have a new camera to do so.

I had a kick ass weekend with my friends from Charlotte. It is funny how you can forget how awesome of a time you have with people, until you are hanging out and having a blast with them again. I can definitely say that I will be making my way back up to Charlotte very soon… I had such a good time, and it was definitely a nice escape. When I got home yesterday, I also had dinner with some great friends, and really allows me to appreciate how awesome friends can be. I swear, if I could quit my job and just hang out with friends all of the time, I seriously think my depression would go away and I would be one of the happiest people alive. I would be broke, but happy! If only I could win the god damned lottery already!!! Hope everyone is having a great Monday. I want to get out of here so I can go get my new camera! WOO HOO!

back from the beach!

We are back! A great time was had, and lots of money was spent. Some of the things that happened that were memorable on the trip: James and Brian were stung by jellyfish (which still freaks me out). We outran a storm on our sunset dolphin cruise… BARELY (it was neat to see the storm roll in, though). Dave took a poo in the bushes by a hotel called Xanadu (which was rechristened Xanapoo as a result). I did manage to see ONE alligator on the island. I realized that there is a limit to how many daiquiris one can drink; Dave, on the other hand, has no limit; seriously (they were good, but way too much sugar!). Sometimes, it is just fun to relax and sit out by the pool with friends.

All in all, I would say a good time was had. As with many vacations, I almost need a vacation from my vacation… travel, drinking, and having fun can wear one out! It was nice to come home yesterday to see our little boy Sydney, whom I missed more than I imagined, and it was true to say that he was definitely glad to see us. After picking him up from the sitter, we came home to discover that our HVAC unit had crapped out while we were gone, and was no longer functioning. Nice. Needless to say, we sweated our balls off until bed time, which, luckily enough, we have a window unit in the bedroom, so it wasn’t that bad for sleeping. The AC people are coming today, and I hope it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to fix. It probably will though, these things are never cheap. Ah, the joys of home ownership. UPDATE: Looks like we are looking at $5000 worth of AC repairs. Jesus. Anyone have any money I can have? A lot of it?

Hope everyone else’s weekend rocked! I can’t wait till we get our AC back!
