which is worse?

Having to repair a floor to ceiling crack in your soon-to-be “new” living room, before your new couch arrives next weekend:

OR…

Almost cutting the tip of your middle finger off, as you expertly wield a box cutter:

I knew there was a reason they put warnings on those things!! I will be fine, nothing to worry about, in fact, it doesn’t even really hurt (since I probably cut through all of the nerves). And don’t worry, it really isn’t THAT big of a cut; but hey, I’m gay, everything needs to have a certain level of drama, honey. Also, one fun side effect, is that I can’t use that finger to type, and it has made this one of the longest entries ever, to type.

The worst thing, is that now I’ll never be a hand model! DAMN YOU FATES! You and your cruel, cruel truth! Ah, another dream dashed…

today’s a scarier day, for gay people, after a(nother) brutal attack

Yesterday, a guy walked into a bar in Massachusetts, asked if it was a gay bar, and then started attacking people with a hatchet and shot a couple of other patrons. Three people were injured in the attack before the attacker fled the scene.

Excuse me? What was that? I’m sorry, I thought for a second there, I was describing a fictitious event, because I know there is no way that stuff like this actually happens; but it did. And not only that, there are crimes against gays occurring all over the place right now. In London, a gay couple’s house was set on fire, and other gay people have been attacked and beaten in the streets. They believe it is a backlash to the legalization of gay civil unions in Britain. The police are recommending that gays, lesbians, and transgenders be as careful as possible when walking outside. Wait a minute, WHAT?

Is this the response that people have to gay people now? I know this has happened in the past, but are people really just becoming more willing to beat us up or kill us? How is this even possible? I honestly can’t believe that stuff like this still happens in this day and age. I would like to believe that there can’t be this much hate in the world, and that there is no way people feel that threatened by gay people; at least not enough to try and harm or kill us for being gay. What does that say about people? Are we loosing humanity, and the ability to see other people as equal? You would think that we live in more progressive times. But, given the light of these events, and horrible tragedies like Matthew Shepard, Barry Winchell, and Brandon Teena (among many others), it seems these times aren’t as progressive as they should be.

is that even “leagle”?

Someone just came to my site by searching “leagle 13 year old sex”. Um, yeah. I believe that it is legal. And by legal, I mean, in spelling only, sicko. Check your spelling on those comments folks! You never know what sickos a misspelling is going to bring! (yeah, I feel pretty confident in calling someone who searches for legal ways to have sex with 13 year olds a SICKO.)

a new beginning: re-purposing a room

Well, the elliptical machine has been sold. I will actually kind of miss it, but I love the freedom that I feel has been bestowed upon me, now that it is in a new home. In case you are going, “what?”, then let me give you a little back story… First of all, we have a 3 bedroom bungalow, which isn’t small, but it really isn’t that big either. One of our bedrooms, the one just off of the living room, has always been used as a guest room. Got a visual? Alright… moving on…

James and I started to hate going to the gym, so something convinced us that we needed to plop down about $2000 on a piece of gym equipment, so that we could stop going to the gym. We got fat. Cut to a few months ago, when we decided to join the YMCA to get less fat; what would we do with the elliptical machine, now? It is just sitting there, unused! I KNOW! Let’s sell it and make the guest room, the new living room! That’s right, you heard me; I am making our guest room into our new living room!!! That doesn’t mean we will no longer be entertaining overnight guests, we still have another bedroom that has a full sized deluxe futon in it; and, we may even be able to be persuaded to buy an aerobed or something; so no need to fret.

But now, we will have a great comfy living room, and have enough room to have a full on dining room too!! I never thought the house would actually grow, but I totally feel like it has for me now. And in order to make it into a living room, we went out and bought ourselves a fancy sectional!! Check out the photos:

It is actually coming in that brownish color that you see on the piece of fabric draped over the chaise end in the second picture. I CAN’T WAIT TILL THIS BITCH IS IN MY HOUSE!!! It is down-filled!!! DOWNFILLED! I will definitely be falling asleep a lot more while watching movies in my new living room!!! AND, James and I will get to sit together on the same piece of furniture and be comfortable! Life is good!

Now, if I can only convince James that we need a much bigger, and more awesome TV…

come on already!!!

I wasn’t going to say anything, seriously, because I didn’t watch the SOTU address last night, but I have read enough about the recaps and shit to get pissed off enough to say something (and Matt S‘s email prompted me to make a public statement… hi Matt!).

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON??!?!??!?!?!?!?!??!?!?

First, before we get to the rant, read this, which is from here:

Not surprisingly, the self-proclaimed “war president” spent the first half of his State of the Union Address defending his record on foreign policy issues. But it was the second half, focusing on domestic policy, that included most of the President’s new proposals. In truth, however, even many of those were recycled ideas from last year’s State of the Union or the 2004 campaign, such as a guest worker program for immigrants, expanding the use of health savings accounts, cutting hundreds of programs from the budget to reduce the deficit, extending tax cuts and renewing the Patriot Act.

no need to worry, I haven’t inked it in yet!

A few people said they really liked the design that I had as an IDEA for my tattoo, but don’t think that it is ready to be inked in. That was just a brain storming session, and while I like it, I don’t have my mind made up. I am thinking that I am going to actually incorporate some things together into a design that is just mine. I think that is probably the direction I will end up taking in the long run… I was up drawing last night til 2. Stay tuned…

Oh yeah, while I DIDN’T watch the presidential state of the union speech last night (seeing him and hearing him talk makes me want to break things), I do have one comment on the whole Americans need to get over this “addiction” to oil: YOU FIRST, SWEETHEART. YOU FIRST.

it may be old news; but it’s GOOD news!

Yes, I know you all know that Jake was nominated for the supporting Oscar for Brokeback Mountain, but I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t say it one more time: JAKE WAS NOMINATED!!! Woo Hoo! Now, he is now and forever going to be “Oscar Nominated Actor, Jake Gyllenhaal” (if not Oscar winning actor… fingers crossed!); and I didn’t think he could get any sexier. But hell YEAH, he just did!

Also, Brokeback pretty much takes the cake: Best Actor (Heath Ledger), Best Supporting Actor (Jake Gyllenhaal), Best Supporting Actress (Michelle Williams), Cinematography, Director (Ang Lee), Original Score, Adapted Screenplay, AND Best Picture. That’s 8 Nominations bitches; it has got to win at least some. Shove that in your bonnet Christian Right… us gays are moving in and having sex on the mountain. Take it in… take it all in. The homosexualization of America marches proudly on!

I for one, am pulling for you Jake!!! Kiss! Kiss!

update: tattoo panel?

Here’s what I am thinking, which is kind of a melding of a few designs, but in a way that they seem connected. Inner arm, right arm. What do you all think?

It would obviously be bigger than this, but this is just to give an idea of what it would look like strung together.

typical monday… but tattoo news (sorta)!

I don’t really have too many thoughts on my mind today, other than, “why am I not still in bed?”, but that is a typical Monday, really. I do have something that I want to talk about, but you will have to wait a day or so for that one, I want to let it marinate before I get into the meat of it. So, I thought, in the meantime, I can ask you some questions, and address the questions that a couple of people have asked about my recent mentioning that I want a new tattoo. I found a pretty cool North American Indian clip art book today, and here are some of the ones I really like: (obviously, I would not be getting the words underneath, as depicted in the pictures. That is just for reference as to where they came from/what they represent)

I was thinking that maybe I should get a bunch of them, and tie them together somehow, as I don’t really want one big ass bird on my arm (inner arm, bicep, btw), but I don’t want them to just look like several different tattoos (which tends to look a little trailer if done wrong). I was thinking of placing them together some fashion and trying to see if a tattoo artist could think of a way to incorporate some or all of them. What do all of you think? Cool? Lame? Cooly Lame? Ah, whatever… I’m just sharing here. There are tons of other cool crap in the book too.

Also, I think that I am going to design some shirts on Cafepress or whatever. I will keep you updated, but you should want to buy one; sydney is now the official mascot of duanemoody.com. Rock on!

sydney’s thoughts on the year of the dog:

Since today marks the beginning of the lunar new year, and since this is also the Chinese year of the dog, I thought that I would enlist the advice of a close friend, who also happens to be a dog, as to his thoughts on the upcoming year. Here’s what he had to say:
sydney_newyear.jpg
“This year, it would be wise to take posing for pictures seriously. How else will one be able to catch such striking beauty as I portray here? Learn from me. I have much to teach.”
sydney_newyear2.jpg
“Hold those you love close to your heart this year. Let them know you love them with lots of hugs. And, feel free to chew on their head if you feel the need to do so.”
sydney_newyear3.jpg
“The year of the dog will also be known as “the year of the dog fashion”. I will design a collection, and model it personally. Watch out Project Runway. Watch out New York Fashion week. Next stop, Milan.”
sydney_newyear4.jpg
“This year will be all about being outside. I spend too much time couped up in this house. I want to go out there, and run and frolic with the other animals. But not at the dog park. I don’t like being humped.”
sydney_newyear5.jpg
“Finally, this year, you should seek enlightenment on all levels. Search within yourself to find a mission of worthy cause, and follow it. I will be here to guide you. I am your Sherpa. I am your strength. Go forth!”

update: Amber alerted me to a major oversight; sydney definitely has thoughts on drinking for this year.
sydney_newyear6.jpg
“This year, enjoy the simple things; beer, vodka, gin, rum. They are all strength builders, confidence boosters, and most importantly, hobbies of mine. I enjoy my drinks tall, and always get the last drop. Are you finished with that beer? Mind if I have a sip?”

Happy New Years, everybody.
