Last night at trivia, I told a funny story about my sister, and it kind of spiraled into an even funnier conversation; here’s an “interpretationâ€, meaning “how I am writing this up for the blogâ€, of how that went:
Somehow we got on the topic of chicken, which somehow spiraled into my story about my sister referring to the ready-to-cook chicken meal “Chicken Voila!†as “Chicken Vi-olaâ€. I was joking to Darcey, who was talking about her new catering business she is starting (GO DARCEY!!!), that she should name her business Voila!. Then, we all made the observation, based on the story about my sister’s country interpretation of voila, that people like my sister, may mistake the name for of her company as vi-ola, and that would really misdirect the message that Darcey is trying to send (class vs. “country interpretationâ€). Then, the spiral that follows:
Darcey: So is that a North Carolina thang?
Me: Most definitely. In fact, I think that all people in NC call it Viola.
Darcey: I bet you can hear, “I need a price check on a Chicken VI-OLA†in grocery stores throughout NC.
(laughs and egging on continues)
Me: There’s a two for one special today here at the Piggly Wiggly; 1.99 for chicken Vi-ola. Getchusome for supper tonight!
Darcey: Whatchu eatin? Why, it’s chicken Vi-ola! It’s delicious!
Me: I wish I could have been in the room when the marketing folks were coming up with that name for the product. Too bad they didn’t have a guy from NC in there, because he would have indicated that clearly, it would be called chicken vi-ola by at least one state.
So yeah, a 10 minute or so conversation about chicken vi-ola; being a redneck can fun. Well, making fun of country folks and talking like a redneck can be fun. Oh yeah, and trivia on Wednesdays is most definitely fun. Can’t wait till next week ya’ll!
