Well, I watched the debate on Friday, and it was a doosy. I really believe that Bush thinks that he is right and that he never lies, and I really believe that Kerry thinks he is able to thwart questions by talking about other issues. So here is the low-down: I thought that Kerry won. Yup, I, like many Americans, thought Kerry took home the debate cup. Here’s why: Kerry doesn’t just look and act more presidential, he is. Kerry seems more confident, more intelligent, and has a better understanding of the issues, in my opinion. And let’s not forget that Bush just flat out lied several times (did someone say, “do you need any wood?” good grief). But all in all, I believe that it was a better matched debate this time, as Bush was more on the ball than before, which still isn’t saying much, and Kerry was more attacking, not letting Bush say things and letting them roll off his back.
But…
Here is my complaint about both Bush and Kerry. First of all, we all know that I am totally voting for Kerry. No doubt in my mind. Kerry rocks, has lots of experience, has great policy ideas, and he isn’t Bush… remember the potato clock I spoke about? Anyways… With that said, I would really like it if Kerry wouldn’t answer questions with, “I am here to get the job done” and “we can do better”, because yes, we know that Mr. Kerry. And that is why I am voting for you. I want you to tell the undecided voters what I already know. I know what you plan to do, and I know how you are going to get the job done, but others that haven’t decided don’t know… so tell them. That’s really my only complaint. The man is really on his game, and does talk a lot of about his plans and stuff, I just want him to say more. More is always better.
As for Bush… He is just flat out doesn’t know what is going on, or he does, and is just in his own world. When he goes on and on about how bi-lateral talks with N. Korea are a bad idea… I wonder, why not try it? I mean, if you are in a fight with someone, or if you expect someone to do something, doesn’t it work best to express your expectations to them?? I think that with all of his experience in foreign policy, Kerry’s idea shouldn’t be “made fun of”. Also, Mr. Bush, something that you do that is REALLY ANNOYING, is answering questions with the response that Kerry is always changing his position and that he is a flip flopper, even when that isn’t the topic of conversation. It is obvious that is all that you have, and we know that now, so let’s please move on. The rest of us that know that Kerry ISN’T a flip flopper really hate hearing it over, and over, and over… get my drift? Another thing that really scares me is that Bush couldn’t admit to ONE mistake. NOT ONE MISTAKE? You mean that your quest into Iraq to find weapons of mass destruction, where, by the way, it is official now that there weren’t any, nor are there any now, wasn’t a mistake? Come on! We all make mistakes, but I believe that rather than staying the course, and risking being labeled a flip flopper for having the conviction to stand up, admit that you were wrong and then change your decision, instead of “going the course” would be something the president would be able to do. Or at least he would want to do. That to me, is a humble, true leader.
So really, that is all I have to say about the debate. It was fun to watch, and I cannot wait to see the final debate on Wednesday. Here is hoping that Kerry wins that one, and the election too…
